Lots Happening

Well, its been a busy winter so far. Even though being stuck inside, the seniors have been enjoying lots of activities while staying cozy and warm. Some inside events going on have been darts, building blocks, hymn sing, and lots of Bingo which they love.  We also recently had a birthday celebration for one of our residents.

We strive to make our residents feel welcome and comfortable in their surroundings. We look forward to welcoming some new people into our home :)20180217_121825_resized 20180202_131810_resized_1 20180222_172705_resized 20180217_121907_resized 20180117_132250_resized_1 20180117_132216_resized_1

Merry Christmas

It has been a busy fall and early winter so far at Blow Me Down Retirement Centre.  The residents have been taking part in various activities at the home. There have been some crafts and game playing taking place.  Residents certainly enjoyed watching the Christmas parade in early December. It was a blustery day, but they dressed up and went outside to watch.

We had some wonderful music by Ron Sheppard during out Christmas party. Many people from the community came to celebrate with the seniors. We always look forward to the parties and the dancing! Even Santa came to visit.

Our Christmas dinner with residents, family and staff was also a big hit. Our turkey dinner with all the fixings was quite wonderful!

Just recently we had a visit Qalipu Aboriginal Drummers. They were fantastic and the residents really enjoyed their drumming and singing.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

New Activities at Blow Me Down !!

We have  an addition to our fantastic staff. This lady has extensive work experience in nursing homes and working with seniors. In the previous home she worked at she worked in organizing and implementing the activities for the residents.  She is doing a wonderful job her at Blow Me Down Retirement Centre with incorporating her knowledge into our activity program.

Because we are a small home, we can tailor the activities to our residents.

She has started an exercise program with the residents. This includes chair exercises, stretching and indoor and outdoor walks. Physical activity is an integral part of overall health and senior well being.

Some other activities on our calendar help to evoke memory recall and mental stimulation. These include memory games, reminiscing, quizzes and puzzles. Also with Christmas soon happening, we have added craft time to our activities which will involve some Christmas craft making such as ornaments.

Now Offering Short Term Respite care

Respite care provides caregivers a temporary rest from caregiving, while your loved one continues to receive care in a safe environment. Using respite services can support and strengthen your ability to be a caregiver.

Being a primary caregiver can sometimes seem overwhelming – don’t be afraid to seek help or advice! Taking care of yourself,  is just as important as taking care of your loved one.

If you or your loved one has recently been hospitalized and required supervised care while recovering, Respite/Convalescent program that is tailored for a supervised shot term recovery stay. Our trained home operator will develop a care plan based on your needs and supervise the personal care services that are required. Meet Michelle – The new owner

Meet Michelle Bennett – The new owner of Blow Me Down Retirement Centre

An Interview with Michelle…

1. What made you decide to buy this personal care home ?

I have an interest in health care since I have a Bachelor of Nursing. After having my children I decided not to return to work at the hospital. So this retirement home allows me to stay in the health care industry and service the senior population in Western Newfoundland. Also, my husband and I have a summer home located next door to the home and we could see the potential with the property. The retirement home is located in scenic Lark Harbour. We spend our summers there and we love it. The view of the ocean is magnificent and has the prettiest sunrises. The area I believe has some of the best hiking trails in Western Newfoundland. If you are an active person, this is the place to be.
